High Quality Window Frames Make A Big Difference

Windows themselves are actually pretty conductive, basically, they get really got in the summer and really cold in the winter. So when you have one pane of glass, that heat and cold transfer right through into the inside of your home. But once you have two panes of glass with air sealed in between, like in a dual paned window, they become much more efficient.

So if you go through the trouble of making your windows efficient with two panes, you will also be concerned about how conductive your frame is. After all, you don’t want an inefficient window frame to offset any of the gains in efficiency you get from a dual paned glass configuration.

New Vinyl Technology

Vinyl windows have been around for about nearly 4 decades, but recent innovations have eliminated the drawbacks of the old windows like warping and color fading. The technological advances in vinyl framed windows have given them mainstream acceptance. Vinyl is energy efficient, durable, rotproof, insectproof and weather resistant. There is no UV-degradation of color which is infused throughout the material so it requires no painting. All it takes to restore its natural brilliance is a little soap.

The coldest part of a double paned window is along the edges. The material that separates the edges of the glass pane is known as a spacer. For structural rigidity, they are made from a metal and normally metals are very conductive. Now, spacers contain an insulated piece of material in between called a thermal break, sometimes referred to as warm edge technology. This prevents the cold piece of metal on the outside edge of the window from effecting the inside edge. The overall effect is reduced condensation, improved efficiency, and more durability.

Tried And True

Vinyl window frames also fuse together at the edges which creates one solid structure with no cracks or air leaks. Beyond stopping air flow, vinyl also decreases conductive heat loss with additional insulation stuffed into multiple air chambers.

There are other new, innovative technologies out there that are attempting to push window efficiency to its limits, but Dixie HomeCrafters sticks with technologies they know will work the best. Most vinyl technologies have been around for over a decade and so far, our thousands of customers can’t be wrong. Dixie HomeCrafters’ No-Nonsense Warranty backs up all of our products, so if you ever have a problem now, or in 10 years, we will replace it, no questions asked.
