As we approach July 4th, many of us will take a few moments to reflect on what it means to be an American. Being an American can mean different things to different people, but one sentiment rings true to all ears, we are a free people. Some contractors come and go. Especially now with the economy the way it is. contractors going out of business puts homeowners in an especially sensitive position. There guarantees are no longer valid, so whatever you have, you are stuck with. For example, sometimes contractors take shortcuts to save money because they think it’s good for business. At Dixie, we’ve been doing quality work for over 20 years and that has never been how we make our money. But for some reason, there are contractors who think that if they cut corners to save money, they can get away with it. Then five years down the road, the effects of the shortcut become visible. Like, for example, an improperly installed tub had a slow leak that caused the floors to rot. What if the company you contracted with for your tub goes out of business? You are up the creek without a paddle.

There is a general distrust of contractors by homeowners. Many people have been burned before by people who quote low, start construction, and charge more. A few have even been unfortunate enough to have contractors skip out right in the middle of a job. These kinds of contractors give the business a bad name. Dixie is here to change that preconceived notion. With Dixie, you don’t pay until the job is done and you are completely satisfied. We don’t hide costs, or try to get in the door to land the job and charge you more as we go. In order to run an honest business, we have to charge an honest amount. Sometimes, that’s going to cost more than other quotes, but Dixie’s work comes with a satisfaction guarantee.

At Dixie, all of our subcontractors are EPA certified. We were one of the first companies to get that EPA Certification when it started last March. When we found out about EPA Lead Paint Certification, all production managers and general managers were immediately licensed and certified in lead paint removal. Beyond the EPA, we have very strict protocols maintaining our subcontractors. We always make sure they keep up with their EPA certificates and insurance policies.

Redoing a tub start to finish, takes approximately three weeks but installation only takes one day. A good contractor can go in Wednesday morning and finish Wednesday afternoon. A technician should inspect the job with the customer, turn the faucets on, turn the hot water, cold water on, shower, make sure everything is running like it should. Then, they make sure everything is cleaned up. When the customers are happy, they will sign off and get a completion certification. It’s not until completion that customers should write a check.
